Scripture memory became very important to me when Hunter and I were going through a heavy trial in our lives, and we were waiting on the Lord for His strength and faithfulness to see us through it. We both memorized a scripture everyday for two months. When I look back on my life those two months are my very favorite time. I had also decided to fast from TV and social media and so to me that time of being in His word, hiding it in my heart, and spending so much time with my Savior seems like the closest thing to Heaven I’ll experience until I step foot in His presence one day.
He brings the verses I memorized to my mind all the time. Often it is for others who need to hear the same thing I needed to hear so many years ago. Two verses I memorized that He reminds me of often are Isaiah 43:18-19, “Do not call to mind the former things, or ponder things of the past. Behold, I will do something new, Now it will spring forth; Will you not be aware of it? I will even make a roadway in the wilderness, and Rivers in the desert.” He brought us through the trial I mentioned above and showed us the rivers and roadways He prepared for us. Another verse I love is, Psalm 126:5, “Those who sow in tears, will reap with shouts of joy.” He has shown me that our deepest sorrows have truly yielded our greatest joys through our own personal growth and being able to see what faithful Father He is through the trial.
